4 days agoNew Port Patient… 34yr old female, triple positive invasive ductal carcinoma. Port was placed last week… will de tenderness and pain get better? It hurts ALL THE TIME… especially when my dog (Belgian Malinois) accidentally bumps it… and the itching!!! Ahh!! I can feel a suture outside, too… I was terrified of getting a port but was glad when it was determined I could get it in the chest wall rather than in my arm… please give me all the good, bad, and ugly information on chest wall ports! Thank you!

4 days agoPort tenderness and pain typically improve significantly within 2-4 weeks as the surgical site heals, though everyone's recovery timeline can be different. The itching and sensation of sutures are normal parts of the healing process, and many patients find that chest wall ports become much more comfortable once fully healed. It's encouraging that other community members who've been through port placement can share their experiences and tips for managing the initial discomfort during this adjustment period.

4 days agoHi and I will tell you from experience you will be so grateful you have this port especially once you heal completely .I have very poor veins and there is no way i could have done my infusions without the port in my chest .They will give you some prescription lidocaine cream to use before each treatment and I can barely even feel them accessing my port on the days i go. You will see it is a game changer once you heal up completely in took me about four weeks.

3 days agoHello. I too am triple positive 🩷 was diagnosed at 46. I absolutely still hate my port to this day. I’m glad I have it but it bothers me everyday. I do not have lidocaine cream. I think I could’ve asked for it. But it wasn’t just offered to me. At first it didn’t bother me when they accessed it. But now it is starting to. But (maybe I’m crazy) I think it varies by nurse. I still struggle to sleep on the side my port is placed. I have had mine for over 4 months now. I can’t say I’m in pain. I just know it is there. I’m sure some of it is mental. I will have mine way longer than I was hoping, as my Herceptin and Perjeta will be infused after I’m done with TCHP. So I won’t even be done with infusions until early next year. Goodluck!!

2 days agoMelissa ask them to write prescription for Emla cream it is a lidocaine that is prescribed for ports so when they are accessed you hardly feel it .I know it makes such a difference when getting your chemo or infusion .Just pat it on port area and put Glade wrap on it about 45 minutes before you get your port accessed.I hope you will give it a try ask anyone on this site about the prescription cream your oncologist will write it for you.
