Anyone else get a seroma after sentinel lymph node biopsy surgery?

Anyone develop a seroma at sentinel lymph node biopsy site? Took two nodes during surgery almost 3 weeks ago and last week I got a seroma just under the incision site. The incision is healed and my surgeon aspirated 18 cc of fluid on Tuesday but it’s still painful and some fluid has returned. Seroma is very tender and surrounding area still has nerve related pain: burning, chaffing etc. I’ve got an ace compression bandage around the area as advised. Doesn’t seem to be improving. I see surgeon again this coming Tuesday.

Seromas after sentinel lymph node biopsy do occur and can definitely be uncomfortable and concerning. Many patients experience similar post-surgical complications, and it sounds like staying in close contact with the surgical team is the right approach. The combination of tenderness and nerve-related sensations can be particularly challenging during recovery, so hopefully the upcoming appointment will provide some additional guidance on managing symptoms and monitoring healing progress.

Yes. I too developed one after two lymph nodes removed. I applied a hot compressed as often as possible. It lasted for about a month.

I had the same issue. However other than some pain with movement my plastic surgeon said it would do more harm to go back in and remove the fluid.

I had seroma that had to be drained 5 times. The last time it was infected. More painful than post double mastectomy surgery. So sorry to hear you experienced seroma-

Thanks Barbara. It has resolved now and I didn’t have to have it aspirated again thankfully. All of the hidden unknowns with this disease …. Hope you’re good now !
