What Blood Test Results Determine My Ibrance Treatment?

I take Ibrance and every month my oncologist looks at the results log bloodwork to decide if I can continue taking it, nerf a longer break from it than a week or switch to another medication. My white and red blood counts are always low but she seems to focus more on other results. She’s told me a few times but I can’t understand her.

Understanding which specific blood test results your oncologist focuses on for Ibrance decisions can definitely feel confusing when the medical terms are hard to follow. The key values that typically guide Ibrance treatment decisions include your absolute neutrophil count (ANC), platelet count, and overall white blood cell count, as these help determine if your body can safely continue the medication or needs a treatment break. Consider asking your care team to write down the specific numbers they're watching or to explain them in simpler terms during your next appointment - many patients find it helpful to bring a list of questions or have someone join the visit to help remember the details.

I also take Ibrance and have taking it for 5years. I have a lot of side effects from it. Do you also have side effects?

5 years! My oncologist told me it has the least side effects but there definitely are some. My latest is blurred vision, very annoying bc I already have low vision and can’t drive anymore. I’m mostly tired and my stomach hurts. In the 6 months I’ve taken it my cancer antigen results are amazing so I’ll hang in there.

I had to take an extra week break in October because of possible liver damage but it cleare up. Do you know what other blood tests help the docs decide if you can continue taking it.
