I'm 58 and a week ago had a mastectomy for multifocal invasive ductal carcinoma. I'm currently waiting for the pathology report and oncogene test results. I've been trying to learn as much as I can about the different treatment options available. I've seen videos about metabolic therapy and was wondering if anyone has experience with incorporating metabolic therapy into their cancer treatment and management plan. I am also interested in having my blood regularly checked for tumor markers like CA 15-3 and CA 27-29 when off chemotherapy and was wondering if anyone is doing this.I am also thinking of declining radiation because the benefits vs. costs are not worth it to me and I would rather deal with any future local recurrence through surgery.

Many community members explore various complementary approaches alongside standard treatments and ask similar questions about monitoring options. It's wonderful that you're actively researching and advocating for your care during this challenging time. Others here may have valuable experiences to share about metabolic approaches and tumor marker monitoring, so hopefully you'll hear from community members who can offer their perspectives on these topics.

My oncologist orders a yearly CA 15-3. I’m not familiar with metabolic therapy so maybe someone else can weigh in on that. What are your concerns with having radiation?

While radiation lowers the rate of local recurrence, it hasn't been found to improve overall survival, and radiation therapy itself can lead to or contribute to an increase in risk for broken bones, secondary cancers, sho…

Yes, radiation has its risks. I did it since I had lumpectomy and so far no major side effects. I didn’t think it was always recommended with a mastectomy, however, based on the pathology. I hope your pathology doesn’t indicate that it is needed. Decisions are hard enough. It’s good that you are well prepared with research. I’m interested if anyone can give insight on metabolic therapy.
