Does anyone here know what the percentage of recurrence is for hormone blockers vs not taking them?

Research shows that hormone therapy can significantly reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence, with studies indicating reductions of 30-50% compared to not taking these medications. However, the specific percentage varies greatly depending on individual factors like cancer type, stage, and personal health history, so discussing these statistics with an oncologist can provide the most relevant information for each situation. Many others in this community have navigated similar treatment decisions and may share their experiences and questions about hormone therapy effectiveness.

Depends on your individual scenario based on your tumor. For me personally it was 4% not taking them and 3% not taking them

My onco score was 3 percent with and 6 without. I have two more procedures to go and Oncologist doesn’t have me starting the hormone blockers till finished with procedures. I really don’t want to even try them based on what side affects others say they have. Going to seek a second opinion…

I tried anestrazole and stopped after 9days felt awful. Then I just tried exemestane and only made it 4 days and felt like I had the flu. Has anybody tried taking these drugs every other day or once a week. My onco score was 12 and my reoccurrence risk is 6 percent without drugs and 3 percent with. I'm considering trying a smaller dose and if that doesn't work I'm just going to go without.

Where and who gives you an onco score?

Your Dr orders the Oncotype. Mine was 6%. But all you need is one cell that gets away….Not everyone has side effects and if you do, you can try to manage them. I’m taking them. I would never forgive myself if it came back. Sadly if cancer comes back it’s more aggressive so the treatments will be harder.

I'm on anestrazole 5 months. Hot flashes, but they have gone after about 3 months. Hair thinning, on minoxidil. Leg cramps using magnesium working. Soon will start radiation. I was diagnosed with 3 separate primary tumors, breast, lung, and kidney. Lung gone via surgery, breast gone via surgery, kidney will be taken care of via cryoabalation soon. Through all this I have kept working. I'm 65. I hope all fighters make the best decisions for themselves as we know our bodies best. Good luck and prayers for all. Janet the Unicorn
