Hello everyone. Hope everyone doing well. I have question: my mother diagnosed with IDC . Oncologist advised 4round red devil and 12 rounds taxol . She has 2more weeks till end of chemotherapy. Her nails got discolored . No numbness. But she feels pain when grabbing something and feels finger tips weak . But it’s not numbness. Anyone has experience? I’m concern about neuropathy but as I searched neuropathy is along with numbness. How long it takes to heal?

Nail changes and finger discomfort are common side effects from chemotherapy treatments, and many patients experience similar symptoms during their treatment journey. While recovery timelines vary from person to person, nail-related side effects typically begin to improve within a few weeks to months after completing chemotherapy, though complete healing can take several months as nails grow out. It's encouraging that there's no numbness present, and discussing these symptoms with the oncology team can help determine the best supportive care options and provide peace of mind about what to expect during recovery.

Yes I did and it was the exact same thing. After chemo your nails will heal and get better and your finger tips will get stronger. So sorry she is going through this but if she can just hang in there for 2 more weeks. After she is done with chemo there is a serum called vegan pure vitamin C and biotin you put on your cuticles every day.

I had the same. Sensitive fingers & very weak hands. I’m one year post chemo & it’s getting better but I still need help opening things.

I am 2.5 years after chemo and I have finally stopped dropping and spilling. Get her some hand exercise equipment. I especially liked the putty. Definitely a side effect of the chemo.

Three months after my chemo I was Dx with POTS and neuropathy; and then 6 months Dx was Dysautonomia; and, then at one year after my Dx was Secondary Dysautonomia to cancer. At 1.5 years I have a Dx of Small Fiber Neuropathy (SFN). Cancer treatment saved my life but cooked my autonomic nervous system. Cancer can kill but treatment can have lasting lifelong consequences. Always get a second opinion. I would rather be here.

I used tea tree oil on nails. It will turn natural after sometime. I was recommended protein powder for neuropathy, and that helped. I joined a research program for Chemo/foggy brain. During research program, one day I took free dance class for BC survivors. The researcher was amazed how the neuron count went way up. Then I was interviewed by medical journalist . There are several online classes for dance or any exercise. Pls join the online class
