2 years agoHi, I was diagnosed with stage 0 LCIS about 2 years ago. I was told I needed to have diagnostic mammograms and MRI’s alternating every 6 months for 5 years. Even with insurance, it is expensive! I complied the first year or so. Why can’t I just have a regular mammo? I have not had any other issues since my lumpectomy and it was a normal mammo that found the original issue. Funds are tight in this economy and it is really difficult to pay so much money for preventative procedures vs. eating or paying for normal necessities in life. My primary doctor is on the same page as me, but the clinic where the mammos are don is insisting I have to have the diagnostic mammo. Please help!

The cost of follow-up care after LCIS can definitely create financial stress, and this concern is shared by many in similar situations. Different types of mammograms serve different purposes in monitoring, and the scheduling recommendations can vary based on individual risk factors that only the medical team fully understands. Consider discussing the financial burden openly with the oncology team, as they may have options for payment plans, financial assistance programs, or alternative monitoring approaches that could work within budget constraints. Many cancer centers have financial counselors who specialize in helping patients navigate these exact situations and find solutions that don't compromise care.

6 months agoSearch online for finding funding, so much money goes into breast cancer. you may even be able to change insurance. I know in CT if I could get on state insurance, they’d pay for everything. There are websites for assistance and now should be open enrolment. Have you considered changing clinics? Is that an option? You could be more profit than patient. Also, you can make payments to hospitals, no interest. Like 50/mo and I don’t think it affects your credit score like other things. You could look into specifics. I know little bits about a lotta things…
