9 months agoAnyone taking Xgeva shots? I have been for four years and now I have teeth that are dying. From what I understand that you can be on it too long and you begin to have necrosis of the bone. No one told me that. I was told it was a bone builder, but it is not. It stops the bone from making new cells so the cancer has nothing to eat. I wish I had been told the truth.

This sounds like a really challenging situation, and it's understandable to feel frustrated when important side effects weren't fully explained beforehand. Dental complications can occur with bone-targeted treatments, and many patients in this community have shared similar experiences with various medications. Speaking with your oncologist about these concerns and possibly getting a dental consultation could help you understand your options moving forward - your medical team should be able to discuss the benefits and risks specific to your situation.

6 months agoWhat type of Cancer are you fighting to take Xgrva shots? This is a new one that I have not heard of yet. Kisquali damaged 3 of my teeth but I also had a full body rash from the drug. I’m fighting Bone Cancer after Metastatic Breast Cancer.

6 months agoI have been on it for 3 1/2 years and my dentist noticed my gums are swollen and it is not due to gum disease. My oncologist did not know if there was a connection to the Xgeva.

6 months agoMetastatic bone cancer from breast cancer. I think they lied to me about what Xgeva does.

6 months agoI too have metastatic breast cancer that spread to my femur. I took Xgeva until I had painful osteonecrosis. I was told it is a very rare side effect of Xgeva. I took antibiotics to get it under control. A periodontist suggested that he remove the small bone that was sticking out in my gums. It was already loose and falling out.I am one of the few that had no problem after that. (So far). Osteonecrosis is painful and serious. It is treatable, but it is a lot to go through. I would still take Xgeva if my breast cancer spread to the bone. Chances are that you will not have this rare side effect.

6 months agoI've been on xgeva 9 years every 3 months. You do need a dental exam prior to taking it and have dental work completed. It can cause jaw bone disease. My oncologist is watching carefully for toxicity. And switched me to every 6 months. It does help rebuild bone that had lesions.

6 months agoI was on XGeva shots and had necrosis of the jaw none and had to have part of my jaw bone removed. Sorry you weren’t informed of what could happen.

6 months agoElizabeth, yes. I had bone lesions in basically every bone except below my elbows and knees. It has rebuilt my bones. I have not had any bone break.

6 months agoI would check into it further as there are side effects that will come after a long time use.

a month agoHi I’m reading this about the drug Xgeva and I also take it. I’ve been on it for awhile but what it’s for is to help the bones stay and be stronger. I had to stop it for awhile cause I was having dental work done. So it was stopped. Now I just had a shot a few weeks ago for the first time in 6 months. I too have metastatic breast cancer spreading to my bones in my back. I do have a tumor on my spine. And I have had back and side pain lol I wouldn’t believe. After trying pill after pill and my markers flying upward I’m now on chemo. The back has just about disappeared and only when I’m on my feet for long periods of time it starts to bother me. Plus my markers are finally coming down. In answer to side effects nausea and I’m my extremely tired. And of course I haven’t any patience for anything or anybody. It’s horrible to feel this way. Plus we’re trying to move. Anyway eventually as my Mom would say “this to shall pass”. This is my second time around with the infusions. I wish everyone well. Mary
