Fatigue After Breast Cancer Treatment: When Will It Improve?

Hi, I had 15 days of full breast radiation . During my treatment I felt fine and was not that tired at all. Now after, I feel fatigued everyday! It’s not horrible, I can still function , just feel really tired. I’m also on lupron shots and being put into meal aide, so I’m not sleeping that great due to those side effects, so I’m not sure if my fatigue if from the meal aide or radiation, or a combo of both. Will this fatigue subside or go away? I am 3 1/2 weeks post radiation

Post-radiation fatigue is actually quite common and often peaks a few weeks after treatment ends, rather than during the treatment itself. The combination of radiation recovery and hormonal changes from the lupron shots can definitely contribute to feeling more tired than usual. Many patients find that radiation-related fatigue gradually improves over the coming weeks and months, though everyone's timeline is different. Your care team can help determine what's contributing most to your fatigue and suggest ways to manage it while your body continues to heal.

Hi Jennifer, for me, my fatigue was absolutely terrible. I wanted to sleep all day. I didn't do that and pushed myself, of course, to work and have some sort of a life. But the extreme fatigue for me lasted for over a year. Much more than that, I just don't want to worry you. Then randomly, one day I felt normal, just like that! Best of luck to you

Thank you for your response. Yes, I’m trying to put it in the back of my mind and truck on!!! But the fatigue truly is real! What do you mean ‘ much more than that’? Please do tell!

Lol, the extreme fatigue and body aches lasted for way into 2 years plus. It just was. Yes, the fatigue is REAL! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. At first, I thought it was in my mind, and I was using the entire treatment as an excuse. But nope, it was real. It just took time, but it tucked! It's going to pass at some point.

Fatigue knocked me out for months after. Just go with it if you can. Nap and rest, your mind/body/spirit has been through so much. It gets better, but I do find around afternoon everyday I get worn out.
