a month agoHi Everyone! I started chemo on Feb 26 (my 45th birthday) and just had my last infusion this past week. I started with 4 Red Devils every 2 weeks, then 12 weekly Taxol infusions. At this point, my eyes water constantly to the point where it looks like I’m crying. I can’t wear my contacts or any eye makeup or lashes. By the end of the day they are red, crusty and irritated from wiping them. My doctor has given me antibiotic eyedrops, but they do not help. I’m also having issues with my fingernails. They are lifting as I’ve heard can happen, but they also seem to be infected underneath. They seep a yellowish foul smelling liquid anytime I grab something or bump my nail on something. I have a taken 2 different oral antibiotics for this and neither seemed to do anything. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms, and if so, what have you found to help? I’m desperate to get both of these issues to go away!

a month agoThese side effects sound incredibly frustrating, especially after completing such an intense treatment regimen. Eye watering and nail changes are common chemotherapy side effects that many community members have experienced, and it's encouraging that you've finished your infusions. Consider asking your oncology team about seeing an ophthalmologist for specialized eye care or a dermatologist for the nail issues, as they may have additional treatment options beyond what's already been tried. Other community members who've faced similar challenges may have helpful tips to share about managing these symptoms during recovery.

13 days agoI’ve also had those issues, but at a much lesser degree. I saw a dermatologist for all my nails, fingers and toes, and skin since it burned in several areas. I don’t remember being prescribed anything for my nails, except keep them out of water and dry as much as possible. I wore a lot of lightweight white cotton gloves for months, and as they got better, would wear finger cots (like tiny condoms) on the few fingers left affected. I kept my toes bandaged. Eventually, the fingers got back to normal. But my toe nails have been permanently damaged and don’t grow anymore. Of what’s left of them. The liquid yellow dried up, like a scab, and some could be removed. As for the eyes, eventually they dried up, too. I’m mostly left with a constant runny nose! Since you recently finished treatment, you should be starting to recover, even tho it may be slow. Hang in there! It’ll take some time.

5 days agoCory, are you on any other meds? I started Verzenio after the same chemo regimen. Same watery eyes, nothing helped. I eventually went on a lower dose that curbed it some. I wear motorcycle glasses to keep the wind out… in the house. One month left, can’t wait to be done! The tears went away in the 4 weeks I went off Verzenio pre and post surgery. My oncologist didn’t think it was the drug until she had a 2nd patient with same complaints.
