3 months agoDigestive side effects like this can happen when starting new medications, and it's completely understandable to have concerns about what you're experiencing. Many patients find it helpful to discuss any new symptoms with their healthcare team, especially in the early days of starting treatment. Others in this community may have similar experiences to share, so hopefully some fellow members will chime in with their perspectives on managing side effects during treatment.

3 months agoI completely agree that checking with your healthcare team about this is a good idea, and you might also want to ask them if there are any dietary adjustments that could help ease the digestive upset while your body adjusts to the medication.

3 months agoMy oncologist prescribed Letrozole one year following my surgery for Stage 2 breast cancer. I had gone through adjuvant chemo prior to surgery and post-surgery chemo treatment, without radiation. I had been taking multivitamins on a regular basis, without radiation a high concentration of Vitamin C, E and Biotin, to aid in hair regrowth. I had no adverse side effects to Letrozole. I hope your oncologist is able to help you in a timely fashion.

3 months agoI have been on exemestane since 7/25. I think it is really affecting my quality of life. I do have some nausea but luckily no diarrhea. The worst part is the anxiety and mood swings. And of course vaginal atrophy. Also constant joint / body aches. Like you I am considering whether giving up quality of life is worth the change in % of recurrance?? Mine is higher than yours 7% vs 15%

3 months agoHi Colleen I am also on exemastane. Joint pain mostly with morning Nausea, and diarrhea. I have adjusted my diet and started probiotic and keeping Imodium with me Timing when I eat and my day plans. With my adjustments, my quality of life has improved, as I know my limitations and I'm not ready for the alternative to stop taking this medication. Keep strong ♥️.

20 days agoI had a lumpectomy with no chemo or radiation, just the pill a day if anastrazole. After a few months with side effects, I was told if I went off anastrazole, my chance of recurrence would go from 3% to 15%. I decided to go off. I had a recurrence in 14 months. These percentages are misleading. I had a second lumpectomy. The pathology report came back with clear margins for the DIC, but microscopic lobular cancer was detected. My surgeon wanted to do another lumpectomy but I opted for a second opinion. I saw another cancer team and opted to have them do a double mastectomy 4 months ago. I am now on exemestane with tolerable side effects. I am doing well. I did not want reconstruction and feel ok. In fact, I really don’t miss my breasts. I am post menopausal and I feel lighter, slimmer. I’m doing bone building exercises 2x week, tai chi daily and play pickleball 2 x week. My point here is, don’t go by numbers or percentages when making decisions. I felt like my first team should have urged me to try another drug before giving the first one up.
