Ok everyone.. decisions decisions my mom had lumpectomy right breast stage 0 DCIS another lymph node involvement grade 2/3 after second surgery all clear margins no residual cells left. Next step is meet w radiation oncologist and medical oncology for hormone therapy. Hormone ER/PR positive HER2 negative. The surgeon said it’s up to my mom and whatever the radiation oncologist recommends but basically reoccurrence is 10% without additional treatment. If she does both radiation and hormone therapy it brings it down to 3% reoccurrence if she opts to do just hormone therapy pill it’s 5% reoccurrence so only a 2% difference. Given that she is 69 yrs old type two diabetic poorly managed by the way even w meds, but she is good shape bmi normal, takes blood press meds, thyroid meds and cholesterol meds, haanyone

This is such a difficult decision, but it sounds like your family has gathered really helpful information about the treatment options and their potential benefits. Many people in this community face similar choices about weighing treatment benefits against quality of life considerations, especially when the percentage differences seem small but could still be meaningful. The oncology team will be able to provide more personalized guidance based on her specific situation and overall health picture, which can help make this complex decision feel more manageable.

Has anyone opted for one or the other treatment and been cancer free I don’t want her to lose her quality of life and if she can skip radiation I want to ask the oncologist when we schedule if that seems fair..
