6 months agoHello, has anyone had the Zometa infusion for osteoporosis? I’m kind of on the fence to take this treatment because of all the side affects
Accepted Answer
It's completely understandable to feel hesitant about any treatment when considering potential side effects. Many community members have shared their experiences with various osteoporosis treatments, and connecting with others who have faced similar decisions can provide valuable insight as you work with your healthcare team to determine what's right for your specific situation.

6 months agoWas the osteoporosis caused by a cancer treatment?

6 months agoNo, the Letrozole medication I take causes it

6 months agoMultiple clinical trials show that Zometa can significantly reduce the risk of both local and distant cancer recurrence and prolong disease-free survival when added to standard therapies in early-stage breast cancer patients. Right now, it’s approved for bone metastasis, but since the evidence is growing that it could make a huge difference for earlier stages, I’m hopeful it’ll soon get wider approval.

6 months agoI had my first zometa treatment. Only weird thing was a spasms in muscle on top of shoulder when they first started administration of zometa. Went away in a few days. Not sure if the spasms was related or not. Getting my second dose later this month. Will see if it occurs again. Otherwise nothing else noticeable

5 months agoI was on Xometa for several years due to MBS in my bones; it caused osteonecrosis in my jaw, so I had HBOT. I still had oral surgery and lost two teeth.

5 months agoFunny that you mentioned teeth issues. I had a 5 mm pocket that my dentist treated in March. When I went back this week got worse. It is now 7mm and was told to go to a peridontist

5 months agoWhen i told my oncologist she asked if the dentist thought it was due to the zometa? Haven't made the peridomtist appointment yet to investigate further. Would be interested to know what symptoms you had or how your tooth issues started

5 months agoBarbara, what did the osteonecrosis in your jaw feel like? I’m always so scared to go to the dentist because I get the XGEVA injection for bone strengthening once a month, and they always ask “Have you had any dental work in the last 8 weeks, or are you having dental work in the next 8 weeks?” I get my teeth cleaned quarterly, and my oncologist says that’s fine as long as I’m not having a procedure that involves the jaw bone, root canal, or dental implant. Geez! What happens if I DID need something like one of those I mentioned? Can they fix it and just hope my bones can handle the procedure? Right now I’m fine! Just wondering “What if?”

12 days agoI had pain in my jaw and told my oncologist I was going to my dentist. He gave me a letter for the dentist to sign saying the osteo necrosis wasn’t due to the xometa. The dentist wouldn’t sign it and referred me to an oral surgeon. I had two oral surgeries and lost the two implants where I had the osteonecrosis. The oral surgeon told me I had no more osteonecrosis, and now I’m waiting to see a periodontist who will put in a partial. I’m not happy with this situation. The surgeon told me to do hyperbaric oxygen therapy, so I did 40 treatments which didn’t seem to help.
