What to Expect During Chemotherapy for Lung Cancer

I have to start chemo for my lung cancer since the immune therapy (Keytruda) did not work. Will I be stuck in bed after chemo? Is it like having the flu (chemo) The doctor also told me I’ll lose my hair. Do I shave it before or wait and see? I think it would make me sad and depressed if I see it come out in clumps. I’m trying to stay strong for my kids but my mental health (anxiety) seems to be getting worse. 😭

Chemotherapy affects everyone differently - some people do feel flu-like symptoms and fatigue, while others manage to maintain more of their regular activities. Many find that side effects are manageable with proper support from their care team. Regarding hair loss, some people prefer to take control by cutting or shaving their hair short beforehand, while others wait to see how it happens naturally - both approaches are completely valid personal choices. The anxiety around treatment changes is incredibly common, and reaching out to your medical team about both physical side effects and mental health support can make a real difference in your overall care experience.

Kim, I had chemo for breast cancer, I lost my hair. I had great curly hair! Before chemo I cut it real short, then within 2 weeks of 1st chemo it started coming out, so I had it shaved and got some great wigs! I did not get sick at all from chemo. I took meds as a preventative and that worked. I don’t know if your religious, but I found praying really helped them and more so now with my anxiety. I wish you good health and less anxiety!

I was ill after the second day, mostly diarrhea. I continued to work PT, I wanted to stay in bed but made myself get up. I have a dog that needed walking and so that was good exercise. I always felt great after the walk, morning and evening. Good luck! My journey was chemo, mastectomy, red devil (🤢) that’s a different story. Now I’m on keytruda.

I had chemo (TCHP) for breast cancer. About a week after the first round, my head felt like it was on fire and my hair hurt. I had my husband help me shave it short. All of my fuzzy hair came out in the shower over the next month. now, I wear lots of different cotton caps and some scarves. I was not ready to style the bald head. Now, 9+ weeks out of chemo, my hair is starting to grow back. On the plus side, I did not have to shave my legs for about 5 months.

I also lost hair and had sensitivity on head ,hurt to touch . I read about temu oil ,I started to use 2 times a week I don’t have any more sensitivity I don’t know if from oil or just that it’s been weeks and most of my hair is gone . But my head is soft from oil and I heard might help in healthy regrowth of hair !🤞
