I am 53 and perimenopausal. Oncologist is recommending monthly Lupron shots to shut down ovaries before starting an Aromatase Inhibitor. When I Google Lupron the results terrify me. Anybody out there have experience with this?

It's completely understandable to feel concerned when researching any new treatment, especially when online searches can present overwhelming information. Many community members have shared experiences with hormone therapies as part of their breast cancer treatment journey, and connecting with others who have been through similar decisions can provide valuable perspective. Consider discussing your specific concerns about Lupron with your oncologist, as they can address questions based on your individual situation and help weigh the benefits and risks for your particular case.

My sister just had her ovaries removed. So far, she hasn't had a recurrence. But, I have MBC. We both had BC in 2002.

Horrifying. And BC isn’t even listed on the Lupron website as a condition to use this drug.

I am just a year older, and my first doctor recommended the same thing. After reading the side effects, I decided to get another opinion for multiple reasons. The medical oncologist at UT Southwestern said there are 2 different studies showing that women between 50-55 could take just tamoxifen until after natural menopause and avoid Lupron injections and be just as effective as Lupron with an AI.
