14 days agoI'm scheduled for breast implant exchange at a same-day surgery center. This surprised me. Has anyone else experienced this and would you do it again?

14 days agoMany community members have shared experiences with outpatient breast implant exchanges, and it's completely natural to feel surprised about the same-day surgery center setting. The decision about whether to proceed is very personal and depends on your specific situation and comfort level with your surgical team. Consider discussing any concerns you have about the outpatient setting with your surgeon, and connecting with others here who may have similar experiences to share.

6 days agoHi Diane I had my first surgery on March 03,2025. I had a double mastectomy with breast expanders put in the same day. This was same day surgery. I was very surprised about this, as long as your pain is under control they will discharge you same day. My procedure was about 6 hours long, I was in post op for about 3 hours. I had breast expanders put in on this day, follow up breast implants put in on May 07,2025. This was same day surgery and recovery time was a lot easier with pain and discomfort.

6 days agoThanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like we have similar experiences. I look forward to having the expanders replaced with implants soon! I haven't experienced same day surgery before, but I'm trusting the experts.

5 days agoI had only got one night approval from insurance. I could have used two nights. I had the double mastectomy with Breast expanders on 10/30/23. Then the implants 4 months later. I was watching the calendar just counting the days to get them out and implants in. It was also a 6 hour surgery.

5 days agoThanks Pat! I too am looking forward to the day the expanders are replaced!! There's definitely been more pain than I was told. May I ask why your exchange surgery was 6 hours? I was told mine would be 45-60 minutes per side.

5 days agoThe exchange was shorter like 4 hours. The mastectomy and expanders was the long one. It may have taken long because I had an inspire placed in me 4 months prior that I wasn’t willing to live without. So they disconnected the battery that rested on top of expander and implant. It is my inspire for my sleep apnea. I may be the only person who has a battery on top of my implants. i love being able to breathe and still have my implants. I’m so glad I advocated for both implants and battery.

5 days agoThey handed me a card that had it in writing exactly how much time I was under Anastesia. Love my hospital.
