Finding the right oncoplastic surgeon can feel overwhelming, especially when local options seem limited. Many community members have found success by reaching out to major cancer centers or academic medical institutions that specialize in breast cancer treatment, as these facilities often have surgeons trained in oncoplastic techniques. Consider getting a second opinion consultation at a comprehensive cancer center, and don't hesitate to ask other members here about their experiences with different facilities or how they navigated similar searches for specialized care.

6 months agoMost breast surgeons should be able to do minor oncoplastic tissue rearranging. A breast Plastic surgeon can do it. If they can't don't use them because those are basic breast cancer surgery techniques

6 months agoHe will not confer with any other doctors nor recommend one. Says doctors do not do that that. Maybe mine is more extensive. How do I find a good one?

6 months agoI just had surgery last week. Partial mastectomy, followed by reconstruction. I had lumpectomy for LCIS 13 years ago. Now DCIS with stage 1 IDC. So opted for the reconstruction. Happy to say clean margins were obtained. And sentinel node clean. So L breast was built up (by rearranging tissue), and R breast reduced. The worst part was having drain and wound vac for a week. This was done at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. Highly recommend their breast center.

6 months agoPatti thank you for sharing your experience. Very happy for you that you had a good outcome. I do not know if my body can withstand this. I have some autoimmune disorders. However I do believe this is a better option than masectomy because my body will reject both the expanders & the silicone transplants, will not be able to get to this step anyway, leaving me in worse shape than ever. Wish I lived closer to there because thus far all who have done well have went to various places in NY. God Bless you.
