Starting Chemotherapy: Nervous but Ready to Fight

Finally starting chemo tomorrow after being diagnosed with IDC ER+, PR- HER2- in Feb. (had DCIS two years ago, with lumpectomy and 2 years of tamoxifen . )Obviously the tamoxifen didn’t work as this is new😖 and only found because of a swollen lymph node and follow on MRI, (not seen in mammogram). I have Chemo class today. A bit nervous for side affects of chemo and the unknown to come. But I’m ready as I can be to kick its butt out of my body.

It's completely normal to feel nervous before starting this next phase of treatment - those feelings show how much strength and courage it takes to face the unknown. The chemo class should help prepare you for what's ahead, and having that fighting spirit will serve you well throughout this journey. Many others in this community have walked similar paths and understand both the challenges and hope that come with treatment.

Hi Michelle! I was diagnosed with IDC HER2 triple positive on March 13, I’m getting a CT scan and a MRI this Friday and Saturday, hopefully I can start chemotherapy soon, I’m nervous about the side effects, I’m a single mom of 2 daughters and I work cleaning houses so I want to be able to do everything but I know it’s not going to be possible:( I’m ready to fight it though 😊

Martha D. Were all in this together ❤️. I had my chemo class yesterday to understand side affects and while there’s a ton to absorb, My Dr. said the nausea regimen on a scale of 1 being no nausea and 10 being vomiting. Strives to keep people at 5. So that helped to ease my mind a bit. They also said I should be able to do my daily activities. We will see … I start 1st session today. You are definitely a strong woman already raising two girls on your own. We can do this!

Cancer isn’t for the faint of heart! We all Got This!!! I too had chemo and I stayed out of work because I was a school nurse and dr said I should stay away from the kids, but I honestly think I could have worked through it with how I felt! I felt a little guilty being home instead of working, (nurse mentality), but my WBCS did drop quite a lot. I got a couple of cute wigs and the kids would check in to see what wig I had on that day when I returned.

Day of chemo and day 2 very good no side effects really. I’m on day three and am a bit tired but still not really nauseous. We will see what days 4 and 5 bring. So far so good. 🤞

I’m on day 8 after first treatment. I can’t complain. Very little nausea. Mostly just very lethargic for 4-5 days. I was able to work. In sat 6 I woke up out of the fog and felt great. Now last night had done back pain which they said can be from the chemo bring your WBC are the lowest days 8-12. Next treatment next Thursday. Hoping everyone is hanging in there.
