I start radiation on Monday and I have no idea what to expect. Do you put cream on before and after? Or just after?

Starting radiation therapy can feel overwhelming when you don't know what to expect, but it's completely normal to have these questions about skin care and preparation. Many patients find it helpful to ask their radiation team about specific skincare routines, as recommendations can vary depending on the type of treatment and individual needs - connecting with others here who've been through similar experiences can also provide valuable insights and support.

For me I was told nothing on the skin prior to radiation and to use only unscented gentle soap. Don’t scrub the area and put the lotion on at least twice a day everyday. I put the lotion on right after treatment in the dressing room.

I just put it on afterwards & used ointments that the doctor gave me when my skin started reacting—not everyone’s does. The radiologist’s nurse will help with those kinds of questions.

The more times the better, that's what I was told. I used it 2-3 times a day during radiation and I recommend continuing even after you've finished. I continued for only a few months then stopped and about 1.5 yrs later, I needed to start applying again. It's something I will continue with, forever, I think.
