I’ve just started taking letrozole, and I am extremely frightened of all the side effects. My son thinks I should have a double mastectomy. What has everyone else experienced who took it??

Starting a new medication can feel overwhelming, especially when reading about potential side effects. Many community members have shared their letrozole experiences here, and reactions can vary significantly from person to person. Consider discussing your specific concerns and treatment options with your oncologist, who can provide personalized guidance based on your individual situation and help address the fears you're experiencing.

Hi Barbara, I am at the 3 yr mark, doing ok. Had alot of joint pain the first couple months, but exercise of any type really helped. I developed some bone loss and have Reclast infusions once a year. Some hair thinning but Biotin helped. 2 more years to go. Talk to your providers about benefits and burdens of double mastectomy. It really depends on the type of breast cancer, tumor size and grade, chemo or radiation or not, etc. For some, lumpectomy was as good. Ask alot of questions first. Best wishes for you.

I’ve been reading about cryoablation. Not sure if that would be something that could be done for you. Maybe check it out. It sound less invasive with minimal recovery. I’m also taking letrozole. Someone told me to take it later in the afternoon so the joint pain doesn’t affect your daily routine. So far it’s worked for me.

I found if I take letrozole at bedtime the side effects don't bother me. When I took it in the morning I had nausea and joint pain. Try taking it an hour before you lay down. Good luck!
