2 years agoAnyone gone/going through radiation find that one product worked/works better than another for radiation burn? I’m becoming so raw. I feel like I’ve tried everything. With it being the weekend I won’t be back to treatment until Monday to speak with staff. Clothing hurts to touch it.
Accepted Answer
Radiation skin reactions can be incredibly challenging, and many community members have found relief with different gentle products like aloe vera gel, specialized radiation lotions, or fragrance-free moisturizers recommended by their care teams. Reaching out to your treatment staff on Monday is a great plan, and in the meantime, other members here might share what has worked for them during their radiation journey.

6 months agoI finished radiation in September and found that Calendula cream worked best for me. I also used aloe and aquaphor

6 months agoFor the burning I found aloderma on Amazon. It’s a pure form of aloe w no alcohol or fragrance it’s helped a lot! Aquphor for a barrier. When I was itchy I added hydrocortisone. Since ice packs are discouraged I was advised to put pillow cases in a zip lock bag and freeze it. Whenever I could I would just take the case out and drape it over my breast.

6 months agoHi! I just want to follow this chain. My mom (DCIS, stage 1b) is about to start radiation next month. Thank you!

6 months agoI was only allowed to use aquifer. What really helped me was a cooling cloth like you would use while exercising or working outside on a hot summer day. I would make it wet, roll it into a tub and lay it where my breast hit the trunk of my body. It helped to reduce the heat in my breast.

6 months agoWhen you say you tried everything, I was warned not to switch one cream with another. They said it can backfire causing more irritation. Recommendations, like Aveeno, Aquafor, etc can help. I bought Infinite Aloe Complex skin care because it absorbs fast and contains all parts of the Aloe Vera plant. I was also given more suggestions. I hope you find something that helps.

6 months agoI used a calendula cream until my skin began to peel and become raw. Then I used Silvadene cream that my radiation oncologist prescribed. The Silvadene worked fantastically. No scarring or infection.

6 months agoI used Miaderm faithfully and was fine until 20 rounds when my skin was beyond raw. My doctor gave me Silvadene which made it worse. I also used Aquafor and MiadermL (which has lidocaine). I was given a week off to heal as I did get through 21 rounds) but skin took 3 weeks to calm down. He wouldn’t allow a dressing on my burns and made the tough decision to forego the last 4 rounds. It’s been 4 weeks since my last radiation and skin is still sensitive and very itchy.

6 months agoI had radiation back in May, finished June 1st. I was told to do salt baths. 4 cups of water 2 tablespoons salt couple of times a day. Then pat dry. Cover area with mepilex. I got mepilex from doctor office. I was beyond raw and doing this had me healed in a couple of weeks. I wish you the best, hope it helps.

6 months agoI have stage 1 breast cancer. Had a lumpectomy about a month ago. It hasn’t spread but pathology reports show I might need chemo and radiation. Radiation will be 20 sessions. They need to test for the orcotype to see if I need chemo. Has anyone experienced this? My healing of my lumpectomy is going well. I still feel sensitive and that it’s healing. Guess it takes a while.

6 months agoI used Aloe then aquaphor. I also made a tincture of organic green tea and sprayed my breast with it when I got home from radiation. Let it air dry.

6 months agoSmilow gave me Eucerin original healing. I slathered it on 1-2 times a day, and continued 2 months after completing 5 weeks of radiation. It worked great

6 months agoI did a mixture of aloe and Aquaphor and seriously, I did not burn at all. I lathered it on every day...my radiology oncologist recommended it.

6 months agoI used hydrogel burn pads when my burns were raw. Helped ‘cool’ the burn and protect it and doesn’t stick to the burn and promotes healing. When less raw, I would use Cera Ve Healing Ointment

6 months agoI used, and am still using Jeans Cream, (which is aloe & vitamin E) at least until the burns clear up. The last week I have had terrible itching and was advised by the radiation nurse to use 50/50 mix of the Jeans Cream and hydrocortisone until it clears up. I was even resorting to using Benadryl so I could sleep. This mixture is doing the trick.
