What should I expect from taking Tagrisso for cancer treatment?

I have been on Tagrisso since diagnosis. NSCLC stage 2B EGFR mutation. After 20 months few side effects. Diarrhea and loss of appitite. Next check up Tuesday at MD Anderson. Last 4 check ups NO Metatitis or Spread. Early diagnosis with a combination of Proton Therapy (6weeks) with Chemo along with Tagrisso was my treatment plan and its working. Lost about 10 lbs despite forcing food but That's ok.

Kenneth, if you have no appetite losing 10 pounds it not bad at all. Good the hear that the treatment is working well for you.

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 non small cell lung cancer in 2024. Had surgery to remove the right upper lobe of my lung (where the malignant tumor was). Now I am on surveillance for 5 years. Cat Scans have been clear so far. It will be three years in April 2027. Do you know why your physician ordered a scan of your brain ? Mine Oncologist never did that. It’s terrifying when you first get diagnosed, don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Lung cancer can spread to the brain. You are fortunate to get diagnosed @ Stage 1. My cancer was found @ stage 3.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Those are the words my surgeon said to me when he consulted with me prior to surgery. I did reach out and reached a place where I could deal with the diagnosis a bit better.

After surgery for stage 2B EGFR pos NSCLC I was on Tagrisso for over 2 years. It us pretty much first line treatment for EGDR pos NSCLC. I tolerated it pretty well. Mild appetite suppressant effectz---which I did not mind. I did get leg crsmps--took msgnesium; quinine was not on option because I'm on Eluquis. I had rare episodes of paronychia (inflammation/inflammation of skin around nails) and nails got very fragile (I carried a good nail file). But overall, I tolerated it well.

Lung cancer often spreads to the Brain. Tagrisso can block the spread. My MD checks a full PET or CT scan each 90 days. My scan last Wednesday showed “No Active Cancer” in my body. Based on my Oncologists Practice of hundreds of patients a one year clear should provide a curative diagnosis for Stage II. I will continue to monitored on 120 day intervals by MD Anderson In Houston.

Kenneth A. That is wonderful news. I will be starting Tagrisso soon as I got a call from my pharmacy they have approved it. My doctor said 3 years of treatment.

My doctor told me that i will probably have to take Tagrisso for the rest of my life if the cancer stays inactive. He told me go live your life Cancer is not part of it anymore.
