a month agoDiagnosis 3b ovarian cancer 8/2025. I had allergic reaction to CARBOplatin on my 12th weekly infusion. Tomorrow is the desensitization process with 8hours of dosing beginning with anti-allergy meds and a very small CARBOplatin dose. If no allergic reaction the dose size will increase over the day. Has anyone had this challenge?

a month agoDesensitization protocols are used specifically for situations like this, where carboplatin has caused an allergic reaction but remains an important part of treatment. While the process can feel daunting with the extended timing and gradual dose increases, these protocols are designed with safety as the priority and have helped many patients continue their treatment successfully. Hopefully others in the community who have been through this experience will share their insights to help ease any concerns about tomorrow's process.

a month agoAt my very 1st treatment, I had no problem with carboplatin, but had an immediate reaction to the paclitaxel (Taxol), and then again even with allergy meds, so they had to switch me to docetaxel (Taxotere) which is similar but has different side effects. Less chance of neuropathy, but greater chance of permanent hair loss. It seems odd that you didn't have a reaction til the 12th treatment I hope you are able to tolerate it with the allergy meds. Best wishes for a complete recovery. 💜

3 days agoI had a similar experience with carbo, late allergic reaction and moved to desensitization protocol going forward for multiple rounds until carbo stopped working. Lots of at home pre and post meds including Dex, and more pre meds at the clinic including steroids. Done over 3 bags, with increases every 15 mins until the last 3 hrs of bag C. Wishing you all the best 🤗🙏🏻
