How long does anxiety last after cancer treatment ends?

Post-treatment anxiety is incredibly common and can persist for months or even years as the body and mind adjust to life after active treatment. The fear of recurrence that many describe as "waiting for the other shoe to drop" is a very real part of the cancer journey, and having undetectable PSA results is certainly something to feel encouraged by. Many community members find it helpful to share their experiences with managing this anxiety and developing coping strategies - what approaches have others found most helpful during this phase of recovery?

I have been in treatment for my Stage 4 prostate cancer since February. I am taking Orgovyx and Nubeqa since my treatment started. My PSA is negligible now (was 96) and I can say I am happy that my body is responding to the treatment so far. However, I can honestly say my body feels so much different than before the diagnosis . Two things keep me going. Prayer and the mental drive to keep moving and fighting. So I definitely understand the feeling of waiting for the “other shoe to drop”

I had surgery 15 years ago, radiation 3xs and been on ADT (6-month, 3-month and monthly dosage schedules) off and on for 7 years. My PSA was never negligible until 2 years ago after it metastasized, had focused radiation (again) and now remain on castration sensitive drugs (Lupron). Appreciate where you are, limit your stress over it coming back and be sure to have your oncologist monitor your PSA levels on a fixed schedule. Stopping ADT will lead to a testosterone rise but until your PSA rises at a doubling rate, be happy with where you are after treatment, I’m envious.
