Newly Diagnosed with Breast Cancer: Seeking Support and Strength

Hello! Newly diagnosed on March 27th after confirming through biopsies that I have stage 1 - HER2+ breast cancer - 2 spot very close to each other. Have an MRI scheduled for next week and then a porta cath surgery for chemo. My doctor recommended chemo first to shrink the tumors before surgery. I found out after a lump appeared out of no where 2 weeks after I celebrated my 40th birthday and that’s how it all started with the doctor visits to verify. I am scared, sad and trying to stay strong. I have a very young son that I need to be strong for. I keep prayer day and night for this nightmare to do away.

Im in the same situation as you, I have a little girls she’s turning 6 on Monday, I’m very nervous, I’m a single mom I’m the one who takes her to school everyday and pick her up, I’m trying to be positive I don’t want her to worry.

@Alicia P I just found out yesterday that I have a second lump in the same breast next to each other, we’re doing an ultrasound/MRI tomorrow 😬

@Martha D I am sorry to hear that. I have the same issue. The one lump that I can feel and a second one that is smaller that only the ultrasound picked up on. I have my porta cath surgery scheduled for next Wednesday because my doc wants me to do chemo first. I am scared but I keep on praying.

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer on March 13th. I too was afraid at first but my faith has me embracing what life has given me. I find gratitude in my situation that I caught it early and that it's not hereditary. my next appointment to do a CT scan is April 21st the wait time was long but I kept myself busy. I currently repeat this prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Hopefully this helps you.

I had HER2+, stage 2 (2.5cm) in right breast - first had chemotherapy (12 wks)+ immunotherapy (Herceptin/Perjeta) to shrink the cancer (which worked), then surgery (lumpectomy + reconstruction + lymph node biopsy), then radiation. Continued immunotherapy for total of 1 year (recently done). Still going to Physical Therapy weekly for cording (due to lymph node removal). Ask questions - to make sure you understand options and treatment plan. I felt better once I had a treatment plan. Have notes written out when you go to appointments (so you don’t forget). Write notes during/after appointments. It’s good to have someone come with you to initial doctor appts. Try to see a Nutritionist early on - I needed more protein and to reduce sugar! Also, drink water! Self-care is very important - see if support groups, yoga, qigong, massage, talks, etc, are available at your cancer center. I still go to the weekly BC yoga class!! Walking is wonderful - really helped me!!
