a month agoI’m Pat, 78, diagnosed with Stage 4 MBC one year ago. The cancer had spread to the pleural fluid around my lung partially collapsing it. I also had “too many lesions on my spine to count.” I was told I’m not curable, but am treatable. My cancer was so advanced that the doctor didn’t recommend IV Chemo or surgery. Instead, I was put on palliative care, Arimidex, and 600mg Kisqali daily. Now one year has passed and I’ve been unbelievably blessed. I’m out driving, shopping, exercising and feeling almost normal! I’ve had some side effects of a rash and hair thinning, but I’m here one year later able to enjoy another Christmas with my family. I want others to know that this diagnosis is not always hopeless. Be faithful and hopeful.

Many people in this community find hope in hearing about experiences like yours, where palliative treatments have allowed for meaningful days filled with everyday activities and precious family moments. Thank you for sharing your perspective - it helps others understand that a Stage 4 diagnosis can still include periods of feeling well and maintaining independence.

a month agoWonderful. I am doing well on Kisquali and the fulvestrant shots since fall 2022. I had a mutation in my liver her2-. Over 25 numerous spots. No activity since treatment. I feel great. I also realize I will live longer. Need to save my $ now lol. Here's to life while it's good. 71 Glad to hear you are doing well.

a month agoThanks for your excellent update. I’m in the same boat and doing well with Faslofex and Verzenio. Chemo is not the preferred route to Stage IV anymore unless you are ER, PR and Her2 negative (triple negative). Anti-Estrogen or Anti-Her2 works better unless you are in crisis mode and they use surgery, radiation or chemo to de-bulk. Nobody in Stage IV is curable but there are excellent drugs available and so many more on the pipeline!

10 days agoGlad to hear you are doing good! Did your pleural effusion clear? I still have mine after being diagnosed with it in Feb of 2024 I have to get it drained about every 3 to 4 months. I had a pleural catheter for over 8 months and they removed it bc the fluid dropped low enough but it continued to retain fluid again. The pleural effusion is my main concern and I wish there was something that would help clear it up!

5 days agoKathy, my pleural effusion hasn’t gone away but it isn’t getting worse anymore. I haven’t needed to have it drained for one year. The oral chemotherapy pills I take may be helping to stabilize it.
