10 months agoPort Tenderness Hi, I’m Pat, age 77, stage 4 MBC with pleural effusion diagnosed 5 months ago. I’m taking Arimidex and Kisqali and tolerate them well. My problem is my port always feels bruised. Often when I use my right arm it hurts. Other than having it removed (my veins are terrible), is there any way to reduce this soreness. The port has been checked and it’s not infected. I have had temporary relief putting my Lidocaine & Prilocaine ointment directly on the port to numb it.

Port discomfort can be really frustrating, especially when it affects daily activities like using your arm. Many people in the community find relief through gentle heat or cold therapy, wearing looser clothing around the port area, and doing light stretching exercises as approved by their care team. It's great that the topical numbing cream provides some temporary relief - discussing other comfort strategies or pain management options with your oncology team might help you find additional ways to manage this ongoing issue.
