How do I cope after severe chemo complications and family crisis?

So, the chemo I was on almost killed me. Three weeks in the hospital and two in rehab. All of my blood counts were critically low and I got strep, sepsis and e coli. Oh, and colon ulcers which caused blood loss. My brother came down to say goodbye, it was that close. While that was going on we had to put my wife in a mental care facility. She always took up a lot of bed, so I slept near the edge on my side. I just realized I'm still sleeping near the edge. Going through a lot. Keep me in your thoughts and send positive vibes. Thank you.

Dear David — You are a prominent example of resilience and determination. I know almost nothing about you but admire your strength and perseverance. Please keep posting, even if it’s only to provide updates on how you’re doing. Others will draw strength from you, and perhaps you will draw strength from others.

Coping after a frightening health crisis and a family crisis at the same time can take a lot of patience, and going one day at a time is okay. Gentle mindfulness habits like slow breathing or a few quiet minutes of grounding, leaning on trusted friends and family, and asking the care team about counseling or support services can all help with the emotional side of recovery. Noticing small moments like these is a sign of how much has been carried, and this cancer support community is here with positive thoughts and an open space to share. Others who have faced treatment complications and family stress are welcome to share what has helped them.
