Coping with Cancer Alone

Hello I’m dealing with my cancer pretty much alone. I have 2 adult children but really have little to no support from them. I don’t have any other family here and since I’ve been diagnosed with cancer it seems all of my friends have disappeared . With the exception of one or 2 of them and I feel like they don’t understand what I’m really been going through…

Feeling isolated during cancer treatment is unfortunately common, yet it doesn't make the experience any less difficult. Many people in this community have shared similar experiences of feeling alone despite having family and friends nearby, and there's genuine understanding here among those who truly know what this journey is like. Consider reaching out to others in this multiple myeloma community who may be facing similar challenges - sometimes connecting with people who understand your specific situation can provide the support that feels missing elsewhere.

*Do you have a church fellowship you can attend? *Is there a Senior Activity center in your community? *Do you have access to a treadmill if you can't walk outdoors due to weather? *Will your health insurance cover counseling sessions with a licensed Therapist? *Do you enjoy reading or listening to books? The Public Library is a great resource. *Would you consider adopting a pet companion? Just some ideas that have helped me and continue to help me. I understand. In the same boat.

Yes I do have a church but because of my immune system I can’t be a lots of people especially if they have a coal or something. I’m very strong in faith and I do rely on God for everything that I’m going through but more importantly I do appreciate you reaching out to me right now. It means more than I could ever put in words and I hope you have an amazing rest of the day and weekend to follow. Blessings 🙏🏽

No, you’re not alone. You have me message me whenever you want and I promise you that I will respond to whatever it is you wanna talk about OK? I would ask how you’re feeling but I know how you’re feeling. Have multiple myeloma myself. I know how it feels so the only thing I can say to you right now is I’m here for you anytime. !!! Blessings 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Multiple Myeloma treatments can really challenge us. Especially if we are on our own, no family. It's why we need to take care of what we think about, what we listen to, what we see. I struggle daily to change any unhelpful thoughts.

I'm really sorry for your situation. Actually most people don't understand multiple Myeloma. Unlike other more aggressive cancers it's easier to manage .So they tend to write off patients. Some close family members also abandoned me thinking I will die soon but now I'm back to my normal life.

Hi Maureen Ty for asking I’m holding on waiting for my appointment with the chief oncologist on 8/5 after seeing him I’m waiting for him to give me a admission date back into Stanford for aggressive Chemo since the chemo that I’m getting at my local Chemo clinic my body is no longer responding to that type of Chemo anymore and my numbers are getting worse each month so I have to be admitted back into the hospital to get aggressive Chemo to get my numbers down. I really do appreciate you reaching out and thinking of me. How are you? Hope all is well You’re still in my prayers. Hope you have a good weekend. Blessings 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Hi! There are several organizations like HealthTree Foundation, International Myeloma Foundation, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation , Leukemia and Lymphoma Society that have support groups and educational events on Zoom that are good to attend and connect with other MM folks. I've been on this journey since 2016 . Connecting with others and educating oneself about MM is very empowering and soothing at the same time. I've met some wonderful caring people on this journey. God bless you!

Juanita Checking in. FYI Info may not apply now but maybe somewhere down the road. September is blood cancer awareness month. There I am sure some information about Myeloma treatment, medications, etc. more readily available coming up in September from the various organizations I mentioned before. Shirley
