Have any of you been told that your tongue cancer was caused by HPV and that it would continue coming back?

HPV-related tongue cancers often have different characteristics compared to other types of oral cancers, and many people in this community have found helpful insights by sharing their experiences with similar diagnoses. The relationship between HPV and cancer recurrence can vary significantly from person to person, which is why connecting with others who understand this specific journey can be so valuable. Consider discussing your concerns about recurrence with your oncology team, as they can provide personalized information based on your specific situation and treatment plan.

I was diagnosed in 6 2024 and told it was stage 4 HPV related but they never said it would come back but during my meany visits for chemo I spoke with a lot of people all different kinds and the general thought was no matter what kind of cancer you have it will come back at some point. I just had another Pet scan last Friday and the same area in my throat has some signs it may be back. My Ent has me scheduled for some time on the table to do extensive biopsies. To make sure one way or the other. He told me I could have my tongue removed and replaced with part of my leg, I told him that is a hard no, so if it is positive I will be going onto immunotherapy and I will be adding ivermectin. My Ent said he doesn’t think it will help but it should not injure me and after reading a lot about this I can’t see any reason to not try it.

I had the HPV in base of tongue and spread to lymph nodes both sides. 6 cysplatin and 35 radiation treatments almost killed me. Pain horrible and lost 70lbs. I did my PET today and all gone. The treatment is horrible but battle through. We are lucky because HPV Squamous cell is very curable. My wife died from a signet ring cell adenocarcinoma in esophagus. It was a horrible brutal death. We will all get to live. Be positive

Well my last pet showed some hot spots my ENT couldn’t see any tumors with the scope so he put me under for aggressive needle biopsy and it is back or maybe never was 100% gone I was told they were thinking of starting me on Keytruda, chemotherapy, and another drug depending on the test outcome samples were sent out to see how the cancer responds to Keytruda and the results say it works well on opening up the shielded cells so it should work. 1 treatment down and every 3 weeks. I did tell my oncologist that I will be throwing everything at this that I can and have learned and researched, this was not taken well but as I told her I’m the one that has cancer and if the crap hits the fan it will be me paying the ultimate price.
