2 months agoHi there! I am going through the same thing. Did you have surgery on your tongue? I opted not to.

2 months agoSorry to hear. Just finished chemo/radiation December 17th. Still recovering, tired, taste isn’t back fully, dry mouth. I still have my feeding tube until my intake increases. I had base of tongue cancer too. No surgery needed, caught early. Treatment was rough to say the least. Seven weeks radiation and three rounds of chemo. First two weeks aren’t bad but then it accelerates quickly on my second round of chemo. Lost 20 pounds but glad I made it.

2 months agoSo glad to hear you pulled through and almost done. My journey is just starting i seen my radiologist today for first consultation I'll begin my treatment probably in two weeks. My throat still isn't healed completely from the surgery on the 23rd of Feb, lingual tonsil removal. Very painful and doctor was honest with me and told me the radiation will be worse. Scared me to death. Then he said my cancer is totally curable which gives me hope.

a month agoI had a HPV+ related tumor surgically removed from the base of my tongue, left side. It had spread to a lymph node next to it. So surgeon removed all lymph nodes from my neck also. Margins of the mass were questionable so they sent me through 6 weeks Radiation, 2 treatments left to go.

9 days agoI am 67 had stage 4 base of tongue cancer HPV positive and received 35 sessions radiation and 6 chemo over a 7 week period. The good news is my tumor is completely gone. I am 5 months post treatment. The bad news is it was living hell going thru this with continuous low blood pressure and 3 different stays in the hospital totaling almost a month. I would highly recommend getting a feeding tube after your 3rd week of treatment if not before to keep your strength up. Are you HPV positive or negative? It makes the cancer easier to treat if your positive. What is post cancer like after treatment? I am not going to sugar coat this it is a living hell.I feel 10 years older and very grateful I am retired because I could not work. Insomnia, weakness, tiredness and constant dry mouth and a lack of enjoyment of food. I would get involved with lymphatic edema exercises and a therapist because of radiation damage to the neck tissues. However, I am alive! The cancer is gone and my post checkups are great. I wish you the best Rick your in for a fight and God Bless!
