Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer: Did You Skip Chemo?

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Clear Cell Carcinoma ovarian cancer in April. The cancer was totally contained in the tumor (which was not compromised during my full hysterectomy), which was attached to my right ovary. My surgeon took all female parts and lymph nodes in my pelvic region, and did a pelvic wash. Everything was free of cancer cells. My gynecologic oncologist recommended 12 weeks of chemo as a preventative measure. After doing tons of research, I elected not to do chemo and I am on an “every three months” monitoring program (blood work and CT scans). Anyone else been diagnosed with Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer and what did you decide to do as treatment?

Deciding how to handle treatment after an early-stage ovarian cancer diagnosis can feel heavy, and many people in this ovarian cancer community face similar questions about chemo and follow-up care. Sharing this question can help others who are weighing their own options for Stage 1 clear cell carcinoma. Since every diagnosis is different, it may help to keep talking with the gynecologic oncologist about the reasons behind each recommendation and to ask any lingering questions about monitoring. Others in this community are welcome to share their own treatment and monitoring experiences, and those stories may offer helpful perspective.
