Darla Hi. I am in remission at this time. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in Jan. 17, 2023. My surgeon said I was stage 2, therefore no further treatment was needed. I had colon resection surgery on Feb. 8, 2023. In December of 2023, I started having problems with getting lost in familiar areas where we live and making stupid mistakes. My primary doctor sent me for a MRI which showed I had a brain tumor in the frontal lobe of my brain. Had brain surgery on Dec. 19, 2023. Doctors said that colon cancer metastasized to my brain. Stage 4. guess it’s very rare for that to happen. Finished chemotherapy in April of last year. Had radiation therapy for 3 sessions before chemotherapy. Now, having MRIs and CT scans about every 3-4 months. New normal for me. I’m very fortunate, I know. But I live with the fear the cancer could come back. My husband who is my rock, says it’s over and to move on. But I struggle with it. I also have a psychiatrist and therapist to help me. So I’m doing most everything I can to help myself. But how do you deal with us?! Sorry for the long post.

Fear of recurrence is one of the most common and understandable concerns for cancer survivors, especially after experiencing metastasis. It sounds like you're taking many positive steps by working with mental health professionals and staying on top of your monitoring schedule - these approaches can be incredibly helpful for managing the anxiety that often comes with survivorship. Many people in this community have found that connecting with others who understand this specific fear, practicing mindfulness techniques, and focusing on what can be controlled day-to-day helps create a sense of empowerment during this challenging time.
