5 months agoHi, I am in the UK and have recently be diagnosed. Stage 4 prostate cancer Gleason 9. It's in several lymph nodes and in pelvis and hip. I have recently started hormone injections. Had a 1 month one to make sure no major side effects, and this week I had my first 6 month one. I have been doing a bit of research and came across Reishi mushroom capsules. Has anyone had any experience with these and do they actually work like the write ups suggest?

While many people explore complementary approaches alongside their standard treatments, it's important to discuss any supplements with your oncology team before starting them, especially since you're currently receiving hormone therapy. Your medical team can provide guidance on what might be safe and appropriate for your specific situation. Many community members here have experience navigating treatment decisions and may share their perspectives on various approaches they've explored with their doctors.

5 months agoThe research and questions that were answered for me is this, if I had radiation 1st then later needed a radical prostatectomy, it would be more difficult to do the surgery because of scarring. Though I chose the surgery and had an extremely bad experience with the surgeon cutting my rectum, I feel I Still made the right decision. The reason the doc made the Mistake was in part because I Have a lot of scar tissue from previous hernia , x3, surgeries. First was as a child then when I Was in my early 40s. The second time was my fault because I tore it 6 weeks afterwards playing volleyball. I’m that way. When I got home after being hospitalized from July7-11 I was out repairing a damaged section of fence.

5 months agoTim W, my t3, N1, M0 Stage IV cancer was treated with 3 years ADT concurrent with 2years Zytiga and 45 fractions of high dose radiation. I’m at 6 1/2 years of <.1 PSA. A proper diet and daily exercise keeps me feeling well and grateful for an extended remission.

4 months agoTD H I'm not totally sure of how they'd define my diagnosis, maybe IV. MRI indicated in seminal vesicles, 2 lymphs, PSMA PET was "low uptake" (only 10-15% are low uptake & they're not sure what it means?), first opinion=Gleason 9,8s,7s, 2nd opinion=7s, PSA 11.6. Started Orgovyx 2/25, Zytiga 5/25. 2nd MRI @ 6 mo. Showed shrinkage prostate 85 mL down to 47 mL. IMRT VMAT 28 fractions Started 7/26/25. Very difficult maneuvering due to drs. stubborn routines. They always want to do what they always Do! Educate yourself & be own advocate is essential (Dr. Geo & PCRI.ORG), Resistance training crucial (Dr. Rob Newton), Diet critical, supps help, & for me God #1 on Protocol! Glad you're doing well! Keep up the fight!!!

4 months agoLabs last week still <.1. Grateful! Talking with two guys at church regarding their experiences with PCa screening protocols and equivocal test results. They both have anxiety regarding uncertainty of those results. PSA has high false positive rate, and PIRADS 3&4 has its share of misses. The good news is that both guys have had negative biopsies, but are scheduled for more biopsies. More definitive screening, for example biomarker testing , is needed.

Community Member
3 months agoTD H , Adenocarcinoma is a very aggressive cancer as you already know and so do I , my diagnosis as well !!! How after you coming off the meds for so long is your PSA still at that low of a level is a miracle !! Usually after coming off the meds your PSA rises , may not be much but it does usually rise some! I have stage 4a , 1 lymph node involved and I decided to stay on the meds as long as they work !! That’s Aberatitone, LUPRON, prednisone and infusions for bone growth!! LUPRON 3 years, Aberatitone , prednisone 2 1/2 years and bone juice for over a year now !! You are a very fortunate man sir , and I wish you nothing but the best !! Take Care

3 months agoTim, I’d also add that there’s a little, grey cloud that follows me. I look back every now and then, especially around 3 month labs, to see if it’s gaining on me or growing.

3 months agoTD H, Don't believe the Grey cloud. We do have an enemy, but we Also have an Advocate who intercede for us who is More Powerful. So, believe the grey cloud is nothing more than a powerless threat who cannot do anything unless you let the fear in!
