What's it like taking abiraterone and prednisone for prostate cancer?

I have stage IV prostate cancer and my doctor has prescribed abiraterone acetate with prednisone. From what I understand, this medication blocks testosterone production since prostate cancer cells use testosterone to grow and spread. My care team mentioned they'll be monitoring me closely with regular blood tests to watch for side effects like high blood pressure, liver problems, and electrolyte imbalances. I'd love to connect with others who have been on this treatment combination and hear about your experiences. • What did your day-to-day routine look like while on abiraterone and prednisone? • What tips or strategies helped you manage any side effects you experienced?

Hello jack I have been on the same medication now for about 3 1/2 years and the only side effect I’m having is weight gain and being hungry other than that I’m having no problems with it

Starting this treatment combination can feel overwhelming, but connecting with others who've walked this path is such a valuable step. Many people find that establishing consistent routines for taking medications and attending monitoring appointments helps create a sense of control during treatment. The community here has shared helpful strategies over time for managing various aspects of treatment - hopefully others will jump in to share their specific experiences with this combination and what worked best for them in their daily lives.

I have stage lV prostate cancer. I have been taking Abirtone acetate and Prednisone since Oct 2022. Prior to that I received 30 radiation treatments. The daily Abirtone is paired with an Eligard shot every 6 months. I ride my bicycle two to three times a week,20 miles rides. I just started playing Pickleball 3 times a week this May. Yesterday after Pickleball I trimmed the hedges and pulled weeds for an hour. Went to sleep a little after 11 PM., woke up at 8AM ,felt fully refreshed as usual ready for another day. My Gleason score is 8.

Hey Dave that's remarkable stuff I'm probably going to go back on the arboretum since I was told to come off it for a clinical trial that might be delayed so my energy is good I had a Gleason score of 8 and I don't have the energy that you have but I certainly am improving.. I have some additional issues with my block urethra and I'm in the process of having my nephroscopy bags removed since my radiation by IV is over.. Good idea most of my problem is maintenance of all this stuff but I'm staying very positive thank you for sharing your story

I forgot to mention. My BP was a little high. I'm taking Amlodipine 5mg. It seems like there's things coming out that may control our cancer. You're welcome.
