What should I expect after kidney surgery for RCC?

I was diagnosed with RCC in November 2025, unfortunately my surgery has been canceled or rescheduled 3 times. Im scheduled to go in for right kidney on Thursday. Im in a ton of pain and ive been dealing with uncontrollable vomiting for over a year now. In December I had a upper and lower gi scope. When I wook up from surgery my voice was almost gone. Thinking it probably bruised from the scope I I waited for it heal for almost a month with no improvement. I went urgent care to have it looked, they sent to a emergency visit the next day with a ENT. They found a 4 cm mass on my larnex, thankfully it was successful removed two weeks ago. My voice is back, thank fully! I really don't know what the next step in going to be after surgery. Any guidance on what to expect.

After kidney surgery for RCC, recovery typically involves a hospital stay of several days followed by gradual healing at home over several weeks, with your medical team providing specific guidance on activity levels, pain management, and follow-up care based on the type of procedure performed. Given everything that's been happening with the delays and other health concerns, it's completely understandable to want clarity about what comes next - discussing your recovery plan and timeline with your surgical team before the procedure can help you feel more prepared and know what to expect during healing.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with pain. Unfortunately, my experience with kidney removal did not result in pain so I have no experience to share but do your best to maintain as positive outlook as you can.

I was sick throwing up for 9 months 7-10 times a day too. Please keep sharing and I hope you have a good caregiver by your side. Lean when you have too and the days that it is not real bad, then try to do little things for others. A gas card, fold laundry, or hey bring me that kitchen drawer that is a catch all and I will clean it out. The smallest of good deeds will lift your spirits and you can be proud of your contribution. I and others will pray for the Dr.'s knowledge and wisdom while you are in surgery. Bless you. Keep posting, others need you too.
