22 days agoHello fellow breast cancer warriors! I am from UK recently moved to Florida, USA. I had two breast surgeries in the UK last year and my surgeon was my point of referral for all treatment. I now need my first post-op assessment - mammogram etc - in the USA. I have health insurance. Women in the US - who/which type of medical professional should be my ‘go to’ person for my journey going forward? Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Thanks. Elaine

21 days agoTransitioning cancer care between countries can feel overwhelming, but healthcare navigators and oncology social workers at cancer centers are often excellent resources for helping patients understand the US healthcare system. In the US, many breast cancer patients work with a medical oncologist as their primary cancer specialist who coordinates care with surgeons, radiologists, and other specialists as needed. Consider reaching out to comprehensive cancer centers in Florida, as they typically have patient navigators who can help guide the process of establishing care and scheduling appropriate follow-up imaging and appointments.
