Hi all. Surgery for Stage 3a vulvar cancer on 10/6. Lymph nodes were removed and just stopped draining yesterday. Now the area is swollen and painful. Nurse is coming tomorrow. Has anyone had cellulitis? Other complications?

Swelling and pain after lymph node removal can be concerning, and it's great that a nurse is coming to check on the area tomorrow. Post-surgical complications like cellulitis, lymphedema, and wound healing issues can occur, so keeping a close eye on symptoms like increased redness, warmth, or fever is important. Many community members have shared experiences with recovery challenges after similar procedures - hopefully others will chime in with their insights and support.

I had experienced those drains (I called them my jugs!). I had to be careful for the swelling and was put on antibiotics to prevent lymphedema. I wore compression hose for a couple years. After that I didn’t need them and would just watch for swelling. Yay!! There is light at the end of the tunnel. If you would like to talk, I would be open to that just let me know.
