Does anyone have any experience with cold caps? Do they really keep your hair from falling out?

Cold caps, also known as scalp cooling systems, have shown promise in reducing hair loss during certain chemotherapy treatments, with many patients experiencing varying degrees of hair preservation. Community members here often share their experiences with cold caps, so this is a great place to connect with others who have tried them and learn about their real-world results during treatment.

I had them, for me it didn't work. I think it really depends on the type of chemo. I had Red Devil and Taxol. Fell out after 2'cyles so I shaved it off. My hairstylist stated they don't work as hair falls out or gets patchy.

I used Cooler Heads https://www.coolerheads.com. Amma cold capping system. It worked great for me. It is what my treatment center had available. It is a machine that runs cold fluid through a cap that is strapped tightly to your head during chemotherapy. There is a bit more to it but it’s not those rubber caps that you have to keep replacing and keep cold with dry ice. I only had some thinning. I am 3 months post treatment and my hair has fully filled back in. I had TC chemo.

When I was starting chemo, the head nurse was nice enough to tell me it wouldn’t work. I had red devil and taxol and I heard it doesn’t work too well with that type...

I have Her-2 positive and I used cold capping. I loved it, first because I'm always hot, so that was nice, and second I still have my eyebrows and eyelashes. Paxman was the one I used.

Triple negative here! I had 12 carbo/taxol and 4 (12 weeks) of the red devil mix. I kept mine. You just have to follow all the rules and cap for 4 hours after treatment. I finished chemo (8 months with delays) on 4/2. Just had a mastectomy and so glad I still have my hair. I used polar.

Mine is working- except I was wearing a headband to protect my forehead and ears. Stupid me- I protected the scalp area near my ears ( that skin didn’t get cold) and the hair is really falling out, but only in that area. Something to see- and the hair on my crown is actually growing! Now I have a panty loner on my head, and lots of cotton around my ears yesterday. I could feel the difference (brrr) without the headband. Anyway- it is a lot of work for your support person- but it is nice to keep your hair if possible.

Hi Beatriz, When I was looking at the cold cap, I was given a price of almost $2,000. I was going ahead with it regardless, not because i'm rich, but simply because I didn't want to lose all of my hair. The social worker on my team found a financial aid, and they eventually covered it! I was blessed. But it didn't work for me personally. I ended up donating mine back.

I used a cooling cap. I was fortunate enough to qualify for a grant at the hospital to pay for it. I still lost hair but only like 40%, and my Dr says my hair will grow back faster than if I hadn’t used it. My hair was medium thickness prior and kinda on the thin side now, I can still braid it or wear a wig if I want. I wish they had something to help with losing your eyebrows & lashes 😞

I use the Paxman cold cap. I did 12 weekly rounds and then I did four of the AC. My hair shedded but I would barely wash it didn’t touch it much. Kept it in two ponytails or one ponytail and I have most of my hair. It’s just thinner. It wasn’t uncomfortable for me. Yes the first 10 to 15 minutes is cold but you get used to it. I had an electric blanket on and I also had the ice on my hands and feet and I didn’t have any neuropathy.Good luck it was worth it for me

I used the Dignicap, it’s expensive $575 for the cap and $300 per treatment ( I had 4) but my already thin hair mostly stayed. It definitely made me feel better to have hair. I use hair toppers sometimes when I go out, and it gave me something to clip it to. I’m post chemo and radiation since January-taking a month long break from Verzenio and have noticed my hair regrowth is much better off the drug.
