What is post embolization syndrome after liver radiation beads?

I was recently diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in the liver. Very large. Monday June 1 I had radiation beads inserted into the liver mass. I was fine the first two days and then —-wham. I thought holy Toledo where did this pain come from. Started in the middle of my back and ended up in the front just below my right ribs to the middle part of my abdomen. I am talking on a scale of 1-10 it was 100. Every time I breathed in I would almost pass out. Went to ER and spent several hours having tons of tests ran to be told there was nothing wrong and there is nothing more they can do unless I accept taking iv morphine. I hate morphine and anything close to it. My interventional radiation doctor said I probably had post embolization syndrome. What??? I guess my liver with the bad cells was fighting the good part of the liver and vice-a-verse. I am still in pain of course not as bad maybe 7 on the pain meter. But still feels like someone is sticking knifes in me and twisting. I guess I am one of those patients that if something is to go wrong it will happen to me. Has anyone else ever had this reaction to radiation beads??? Thanks for reading.

Post-embolization syndrome is a recognized side effect that can occur after radiation bead treatments, causing significant pain and discomfort as the body responds to the procedure. While the intensity of pain experienced can vary greatly between patients, severe pain requiring emergency care does happen and shouldn't be dismissed as unusual. Pain management during recovery is crucial, so working closely with the medical team to find effective options that align with personal preferences is important. Many patients in this community have shared similar experiences with various liver treatments, and connecting with others who understand these challenges can provide valuable support during the recovery process.
