2 years agoHas anyone had radiation after reconstruction? Thoughts?
Accepted Answer
This is such an important question, and many people in the breast cancer community have navigated radiation after reconstruction with different experiences. Connecting with others who have been through this journey can provide valuable insights about what to expect and how to prepare for the process.

6 months agoFrom what I understand radiation is done afterwards. What was your reconstruction? I mean did you get implants?

6 months agoI had a partial latissmus flap closure with a tissue expander. It’s been about a week and I am still extremely miserable. The tissue expander feels like it’s too big and my back still hurts really bad!! I go see my plastic surgeon today for post op

6 months agoHope that you get some answers at your appointment today. Don't know if this is the same thing/situation but when I first got my BC dx the cosmetic surgeon told me implants and radiation treatment "do not play well together" (I already had implants in). So if I was to get the standard radiation treatment I would have needed to have my implants removed first. I ended up being in a research study (had a one time high powered focused radiation beam on the tumor only) and I will be having a lumpectomy at the end of the summer. I will be having my implants removed at that time also. Maybe you doctor today can clarify about the radiation and surgery/ implants.
