2 years agoMet with Radiation onc. They say I’m in a grey area for needing radiation but it is advised. They told me radiation does not lengthen life space nor prevent distant disease which is what is life threatening. So why do it? She said risk of local recurrence is 5% with radiation that lowers to 2%. But it seems like cancer comes back way more than that. Med onc thinks radiation is necessary but I’m young and so confused.. :(

Making treatment decisions can feel overwhelming, especially when facing uncertainties about benefits and risks. It's completely understandable to feel confused when medical professionals present different perspectives on radiation therapy recommendations. Many patients in similar situations find it helpful to discuss their specific concerns with their care team, ask about long-term quality of life considerations, and sometimes seek a second opinion to gain additional clarity before making this important decision.
