a year agoIs there any reconstruction that is completed immediately after mastectomy. Ie same surgery?
Accepted Answer
Yes, immediate breast reconstruction during the same mastectomy surgery is definitely possible and is called "immediate reconstruction." This approach allows the plastic surgeon to begin rebuilding the breast right after the breast tissue is removed, which can have both physical and emotional benefits for many patients. It's wonderful that you're exploring all your options - this is exactly the kind of important question to discuss thoroughly with your surgical team, as they can help determine what reconstruction methods might work best for your specific situation and treatment plan.

6 months agoYes, I had abdominal flap surgery at the same time as my mastectomy. It was successful and looks much like my normal breast. I did have a nipple tattoo later though.

6 months agoI was able to have a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction at the same time. I have implants, was not a candidate for dflap. My surgeons explained that depending on your skin, size, etc. they may or may not be able to do immediate reconstruction. I just wanted the same size, and they’re not very big.
