3 months agoI had GIST surgery with a partial gastrectomy in April. Mass was found when I had a CT of my chest and believed to be an adrenal tumor. Incidental finding Surgery was for that and when the procedure started it was discovered to be a 7.5 x5.5 x5 cm GIST at my Stomach fundus. It was removed and was Malignant. I’m currently on Imanitib 400mg. Surgeon and Oncologist all state that I’m very lucky. So I’ll take that. Now I’m experiencing some Anemia with very low B12 Have scan every 3-4 months n Blood work every month 🤞

3 months agoAnemia and low B12 levels can be common after partial gastrectomy since the stomach plays an important role in absorbing these nutrients. Many GIST patients experience similar issues after their surgery, and regular monitoring through your monthly blood work helps your care team track these levels and adjust treatment as needed. Your oncology team may recommend B12 supplements or other interventions based on your specific lab results, so keeping up with those regular appointments is really important for managing these post-surgical effects.

a month agoHow was your surgery Gary and how long till recovery? Do you have any restrictions with food now? My husband was just diagnosed with a 13.6 cm GIST similar location to you. Waiting for the Gleevic to come in the mail. He is nervous for the side effects so any information you can give us would be helpful. Also worried about losing part of his stomach Thanks! Kelly

a month agoGood Morning Kelly, My surgery went well overall. Started as Laparoscopic but ended up with abdominal opening. Day of surgery and next day had abdominal pain but got better. As far as diet I ate lighter small meals nothing to spicy. I would say about 6-8 before full recovery. Taking Imanitib 400 No real side effects except Nausea. Overall everything appears heading in the right direction. Best of Luck.
