How can I treat nasal dryness and scabbing from chemo?

How does everyone deal with the dryness and scabbing inside the nose? My oncologist says it’s the chemo drying me out and recommended Vaseline or aquaphor, applied with a Q-Tip, but I also have pretty severe seasonal and environmental allergies. I take multiple different allergy meds and have been for years, way before starting chemo. Now I am dealing with tons of tiny whiteheads inside my nose and it’s so tender and painful. I haven’t found anything yet that won’t cause the white heads but still moisturize enough to not be in tears just from lightly dabbing my nose with a super soft tissue. It’s honestly PAINFUL. Any advice is appreciated!

This sounds incredibly uncomfortable and frustrating to deal with on top of everything else. Nasal dryness from chemotherapy is a common challenge, and finding the right balance between moisturizing and avoiding irritation can take some trial and error. Some community members have found gentle saline rinses helpful, while others prefer humidifiers or different types of nasal moisturizers - it might be worth discussing these options with your care team to see what could work best with your allergies and current situation.

Hello! I struggled with this too. I would constantly use saline nose sprays. Because the scabs would feel tight and like they were pulling the inside of my nose. You can use it as much as you want. I would have bottles sitting everywhere. Beside my chair, beside my bed. I would spray until it was running out of my nose. And then hold a tissue under my nostrils until the saline stopped dripping. I did do the aquaphor on a q-tip. I felt that helped me a lot too. But I didn’t have the white head issue. I never realized how helpful nose hair is 😂

Yes I am HERS positive also and I have been on targerted therapy for about 7 months every Three weeks of course and the more I have I noticed more side efffects with itching, and sores inside nose and my nose is so itchy. I Started using Neosporin and that seems to really help by the fourth day I could feel some relief .I took Benadryl for the itching and put a little Neosporin up my nose and I can tell it is really helping.Put a little bit up nose during the day and before I go to sleep.I hope this helps those that have dryness and scabbing or sores inside nose.
