I am 76 and had lumpectomy for stage 0 cancer 1cm. Doc recommended radiation however said it was up to me. I did have ovarian cancer 32 years ago. My mom died from breast cancer in her 80’s. Any thoughts on the radiation?

This is such a personal decision that many people face after a lumpectomy, and it's completely understandable to weigh the options carefully at this stage of life. Having your doctor give you the choice shows that both approaches - with or without radiation - can be reasonable paths forward depending on your individual circumstances and priorities. Many community members have shared their experiences with similar decisions, and connecting with others who've been in your shoes might help you think through what feels right for you.

I am 67 post lumpectomy with stage 0, almost 1 cm, clean margins. MDs recommended 4 weeks radiation and 5 years of aromatase inhibitors. I completed the 4 weeks radiation and am currently taking the aromatase inhibitors. I had/have manageable side effects from both. I want to live a LONG life and my thinking is, if I don’t at least try the treatments and i get a recurrence or new cancer, i will really regret it.
