I'm taking Verzenio (abemaciclib) as targeted therapy for my early-stage breast cancer. My oncologist explained that it works by blocking CDK4/6 proteins that cancer cells need to divide. I'm using it after surgery to help reduce the risk of cancer returning. I've been dealing with some challenging side effects lately, including severe back pain, diarrhea, and significant hair loss. I have an appointment with my oncology team tomorrow to discuss these symptoms. I started Verzenio 150mg in January 2026. My blood levels were not coming back so they had me stop for two weeks and put me on 100mg. I had GI issues on and off for the first 2 months then things improved. I do use OTC meds as needed if constipation or diarrhea occur. BRAT diet most days (banana, rice, apple and dry toast) are my normal snacks.
