9 months agoI had my mastectomy, right breast 1/24/25. I opted for an extender. I had radiation to the same breast 7 years ago. I have so much pain from the extender. Due to previous radiation the dr wasn’t sure how my damaged tissue would stretch for the implant, but we are giving it a try. Has anyone been through this and how long does the pain last? It’s been 7 weeks now.
Accepted Answer
Recovery from breast expander placement can vary significantly from person to person, especially when previous radiation has affected the tissue in the area. Many community members have shared that discomfort from expanders can persist for several weeks to a few months as the body adjusts and tissue gradually stretches. Connecting with others who have navigated similar experiences with expanders after radiation might provide helpful insights and support during this challenging time.

6 months agoKatherine, I had radiation after my lumpectomy 7 years ago. After this mastectomy that I just had I did not do any radiation.

6 months agoAsk your doctor, also, they got creams for your skin. This procedure with the expander depends on your cup size. I got 600ml or cup size C. This is what I remember from my reconstruction surgery.
