How can I naturally boost my ANC during chemo and radiation?

I was diagnosed in July with Stage IIIB non-small cell lung cancer and started treatment at the end of August. I’m currently undergoing thoracic radiation along with chemotherapy. My most recent ANC was 1.47, which was just low enough that my chemotherapy had to be delayed. Because I’m receiving thoracic radiation, my treatment team has told me that white blood cell growth-factor treatment is not an option for me right now. Has anyone here found anything that helped their ANC recover during treatment — whether through nutrition, hydration, activity, rest, or anything else? I already eat a healthy, balanced diet and try to exercise about three times a week. I understand there may not be a reliable “natural” way to raise neutrophils quickly, but I’d be very interested in hearing what others experienced and whether anything seemed to help between treatments. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Many community members have shared experiences with supporting their body during treatment while managing low ANC levels. Some have found that staying well-hydrated, getting adequate sleep, and maintaining gentle movement when possible may help their overall recovery between treatments. It's encouraging that you're already following a healthy routine with nutrition and exercise - your treatment team can best guide you on what's safe and appropriate for your specific situation while receiving thoracic radiation.
