5 days agoHad a biopsy that showed 2.1mm triple positive grade 2 cancer and 80% DCIS. The sample was only 2 centimeters, and the calcifications are 4 centimeters. They are thinking that most of it is DCIS but not sure. There was no mass visible on the mammogram and none mentioned on the MRI. Only the calcifications. Lymph nodes appeared normal on MRI as well, which is a relief. This is a recurrence. I previously had DCIS 4 years ago and treated it with lumpectomy + radiation + tamoxifen. I believe I am tamoxifen resistant, which is really not good at all, but I know the primary treatment is surgery, so I hope that removes all traces of my breast cancer. I am anxious to get my DMX yesterday. I know there are no guarantees, but statistically, so long as they don't find more invasive, my odds are 95% or more that a DMX will cure me. I will still take whatever adjuvant therapies they believe I need. I have to meet with a MDC since it is a recurrence, but I believe because mammogram looks like DCIS and the IDC removed was only 2.1mm that I will for sure be recommended surgery first. Don't know, though. It's scary having to wait and all the unknowns. If anyone has any thoughts, feel free to comment.

5 days agoThe waiting period before treatment can feel overwhelming, especially when there are so many unknowns about the extent of the cancer and treatment plan. Many patients find that recurrence brings up different feelings and concerns than the initial diagnosis, and it's completely understandable to feel anxious about the multidisciplinary team meeting and surgical recommendations. While each person's situation is unique and only the medical team can provide specific guidance about treatment options and outcomes, connecting with others who have navigated similar recurrence situations in this community might provide helpful perspectives and emotional support during this challenging time.
